The Delta Dash MTB 6 Hour Endurance Challenge is a unique mountain bike race where solo riders and three-person relay teams attempt to complete as many laps around a challenging cross-country circuit in 6 hours. All proceeds from the event go to Delta Park School which is a public school for learners who experience barriers to learning which prevent them from coping adequately in a mainstream environment.
Hot on the heels of our second place finish in 2014, Team Grenade (Nick Diack, Jared Cavé, Colin Daniels) managed to put in another strong performance on 18 April to finish in third place in the men’s team category. The increased number of participants and strong competition from over 100 other teams made the achievement that much more special.
Team Grenade completed 20 laps (one more lap than last year) of the undulating 5.9km course, which traverses Delta Park and the Delta Park School grounds, to ride a collective distance of over 110km in 6 hours averaging 3 laps per hour. The teams that finished in first and second place were only 1 lap ahead with 21 laps.
We will be back next year to support this fantastic event and we encourage anyone in the Johannesburg area who owns a mountain bike to get in on the action.
